Ethical, Evidence-Based Behaviour Training

We are responsible for the mental and physical wellbeing of the animals in our care and they deserve the best we can offer. Without seeing the world from their perspective we can’t change things for the better. As a behaviourist it is my job to underpin the root cause of any problems and understand why your horse or dog has developed these behaviours. Not all behavioural issues are straightforward to resolve, for some have complex origins and need a detailed case history and assessment to understand. Once I’ve assessed the behaviour I can create a suitable behaviour modification plan for you to follow. This will be tailored to you and your horse or dog so that further training is as effective and practical as possible. My aim is to create lasting, positive behavioural changes using an ethical, evidence-based method of training that is safe, humane and effective. Every animal is an individual and we must recognise their needs and how they will learn in order for behaviour change to be successful.

Behaviour Consultations

I offer behavioural consultations which are suited for more complex or serious behaviours which require a more specialist approach. Quite often in severe cases pain or a medical issue is the root cause or a contributing factor to a problem. I may want to work closely with your Vet to rule out any underlying medical reasons for the problem behaviour.

I also offer training sessions which are ideal for less complex behavioural issues that don’t require a full report or detailed training plan.

Canine Behaviour Consultations

Dogs have been part of our lives for thousands of years and we treasure the companionship and joy they bring to our homes and families. I work with a wide range of training issues from basic puppy work to more serious behavioural issues such as aggression. Having the correct advice and approach is crucial for success when treating behaviour problems to ensure they don't escalate or are expressed in a different way. We all want to do the best for our dogs, but every dog is an individual and what works for one may not work for another. Whatever situation you find yourself in with your dog I’m here to help, no matter how complex or extreme.

Equine Behaviour Consultations

The physical form of the horse has been greatly changed over the course of their evolution and domestication. However, mentally they still remain a highly social animal, one of flight and can easily feel worried or threatened through what we do with them. Many horses struggle in areas such as clipping, loading, breaking in or separation anxiety. This can be difficult for any owner to deal with and there is a minefield of information out there on how you should go about training your horse. It is important not only to identify the root cause of any behaviour accurately but to find a method which suits you and your horse. Only then can positive progress be made for you both.

Behaviour Services & Pricing

You’ll receive a personalised behavioural report or training plan for you to put in place. We can then arrange to book in for a follow up session to ensure the training is progressing and we’re on the right track. Our training plan can be tweaked as we go on if necessary and to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable throughout. You will receive ongoing support and advice from me throughout our time together.
